SOUND SYSTEM is a circle of sound poetry which is housed in a system of metal bins. Both, sound and metal bins, are leftovers or parts of things that were once complete and are now remnants. The work is motivated by the idea of re-using and re- contextualising.

From the moment something starts to exist or has been considered done or complete it starts to decay. Material doesn't disappear though; rather it keeps transforming itself endlessly. Materiality is a constant „becoming“. Whatever remains, keeps therefore changing and renewing itself.

The sound samples used in this work were extracted from live sound recordings made in the spaces, streets and natural environments of Lamu, following a detailed selection process. The artist refers to the samples as relics. In the presented sound composition atmospheres, situations and images of the town are being suggested and associatively recreated.

The metal bins used to shelter the sound were found in refuse areas – they are one of the few materials that survived the garbage fires. They are leftovers in a visible transformational process.
